Choquequirao Trek Itinerary: 5 Days / 4 Nights

Day 01 \ Cusco • Cachora • Tarawasi • Saywite.

You will be greeted at your hotel in morning andtaken by bus to the town of Cachora. Along the way we will pass though will pass through the villages of Izcuchaca, Zurita, visit the Archaeological Complex at Tarawasi and continue until the joint Archaeological project of Saywite.

Then we will descend to Cachora (2.910 m.) and camp for the night. From here we will be able to appreciate the Nevado Salkantay (6.271 meters) and mountains of the Cordillera de Vilcabamba. Cachora is a small town that has the means necessary for an emergency evacuation.

Day 02 \ Cachora • Apurimac Canyon • Capullichayoc • Chiquiska.

After breakfast we will begin the walk towards the Apurimac River canyon. We will pass farms and maybe see the flight of some condors descending into the deep canyon of the Apurimac, one of the deepest and most beautiful in the world. We will hike to Capullichayoc (2.800 m) from where we will see the complex of Choquequirao. On our way to camp at Chiquiska (1.650 msnm) will experience changes in climate and vegetation.

Day 03 \ Chiquiska • Santa Rosa • Marampata • Raqyapata. Choquequirao

After breakfast we will cross the bridge over the Apurimac River and start rising to the Santa Rosa area (2.290 m). The vegetation here becomes abundant with the hot climate and we will see fruit trees.

We will continue until reaching the field of Marampata (2.850 m.) where we can appreciate a beautiful view of the citadel of Choquequirao located in the mountains. Further on we will reach Raqyapata where we will camp for the night and in the afternoon visit the Choquequirao Archaeological Complex with our guide.

Day 04 \ Choquequierao • Chiquiska

After breakfast we will visit the lowlands and highlands of Choquequirao where we can appreciate more than 50 cultivation terraces covered with vegetation watered from a canal fed from the top of the mountain. Then we will then continue on to Chiquiska and return to camp.

Day 05 \ Chiquiska • Cachora • Cusco.

After breakfast we will rise early and continue toward the town of Cachora. During our bus tour we'll enjoy the attractive view of the Salkantay snow, the mountains of the Cordillera Vilcabamba and the formidable Canyon Apurimac. We will arrive back to Cusco in the early evening.
