Your Amazon adventure begins upon arrival in Puerto Maldonado, whether you arrive by plane or bus. A professional local guide will welcome you and take you to our office in the city center, where you can repack and safely store any luggage you won’t need during the tour.
From there, you’ll head to the Tourist Port / Puerto Capitanía, where you’ll board a motorized boat for a scenic 45-minute journey along the Madre de Dios River. As you travel downstream, the rainforest begins to surround you, offering the first glimpse of the incredible nature that awaits.
Upon arrival at Sandoval Port, you’ll enter the protected area of Tambopata National Reserve and begin a beautiful 3 km walk through the jungle. This trail takes approximately 1 hour and may be muddy during the rainy season, adding a real sense of adventure to the experience.
At the end of the trail, you’ll reach a small dock, where the journey continues by rowing canoe across the calm waters of Sandoval Lake. This peaceful 30-minute ride is one of the most magical moments of the day, with chances to hear jungle sounds and spot wildlife along the way.
Once you arrive at Maloka Sandoval Lodge, you’ll be welcomed with a refreshing local fruit juice and receive a short orientation about the lodge and the experience ahead. After settling into your room, you’ll have time to rest and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the Amazon.
In the evening, the adventure continues with a guided night walk through the rainforest. Equipped with flashlights or headlamps, you’ll explore the jungle after dark, when many fascinating creatures become active. With luck, you may spot night monkeys, frogs, snakes, insects, and other nocturnal wildlife.
After the walk, you’ll return to the lodge for a delicious dinner and spend the night surrounded by the unforgettable sounds of the Amazon rainforest.
