After a delicious breakfast at the lodge, your Manu Cultural Zone adventure continues with a short scenic drive to Atalaya Port, located at 490 m / 1,608 ft. This 45-minute transfer takes you deeper into the Amazon region, where the landscapes become greener, warmer, and more alive with tropical sounds.

From Atalaya, you’ll board a motorized boat for a beautiful 30-minute ride along the Alto Madre de Dios River. This river journey is one of the highlights of the day, offering the perfect opportunity to experience the Amazon from the water. Along the riverbanks, keep your eyes open for colorful birds, monkeys, and other rainforest wildlife moving through the trees.

Upon arrival, you’ll reach Paititi Lodge, a comfortable jungle lodge surrounded by pristine rainforest. Designed to combine nature and comfort, the lodge offers private rooms, en-suite bathrooms, and showers, making it an ideal place to rest while staying fully connected to the Amazon environment.

After a freshly prepared lunch, the afternoon adventure begins with a visit to Machuwasi Lake, also known as Cocha Machuwasi. This beautiful oxbow lake is one of the best places in the Manu Cultural Zone for wildlife observation and peaceful nature exploration.

You’ll board a traditional catamaran raft, allowing you to move silently across the calm waters without disturbing the animals. This quiet experience increases your chances of spotting wildlife in its natural habitat.

During the visit, you may see the fascinating Hoatzin, locally known as Shansho, a prehistoric-looking bird and one of the most iconic species of the Amazon wetlands. Your final day in the Manu Cultural Zone begins very early with a scenic 45-minute boat ride along the river, taking you deep into the rainforest toward one of the most fascinating wildlife experiences in the Amazon: the Parrot Clay Lick.

This natural clay wall is rich in salts and minerals, attracting hundreds of colorful parrots in the early morning. Here, you’ll witness an unforgettable natural spectacle as 3 to 4 different parrot species gather to feed on the mineral-rich clay. This behavior helps them neutralize toxins from their diet and supports digestion — a remarkable example of the rainforest’s delicate balance.

The scene is truly magical: vibrant green birds, jungle sounds, morning light, and the powerful feeling of watching wildlife in its natural habitat. It’s a perfect highlight for nature lovers, birdwatchers, and photographers.

After this incredible encounter, you’ll return to the lodge for a hearty breakfast before beginning the journey back to Cusco.

The return starts with a boat ride back to Atalaya Port, where your private transport will be waiting. From there, you’ll travel by road through Pilcopata, Patria, and Chontachaca, gradually ascending from the Amazon lowlands back into the misty cloud forest.

As the landscapes change once again, you’ll have a final opportunity to enjoy the lush vegetation, mountain views, and possible wildlife sightings along the route. This return journey beautifully completes the transition from the tropical rainforest back to the Andes.
