Your Salkantay adventure begins early with hotel pickup in Cusco between 4:30 and 5:00 a.m. Once the group is ready, you’ll travel by vehicle for approximately 2 hours to Mollepata, where you’ll enjoy breakfast and have time to buy any last-minute essentials.
After breakfast, the journey continues for about 1 more hour to Soraypampa, the official starting point of the trek. Here, you’ll meet the muleteers and support team who will help transport the equipment along the route.
The first hike of the day takes you to the stunning Humantay Lake, starting from around 3,900 meters and climbing to 4,200 meters. This scenic uphill walk takes approximately 2 hours, rewarding you with breathtaking views of turquoise waters surrounded by dramatic mountain peaks.
After time to rest, take photos, and enjoy the landscape, you’ll begin the descent toward Quiswarniyoc Camp, arriving around 2:00 p.m. A freshly prepared lunch will be waiting for you, followed by time to relax and settle into your accommodation.
The afternoon is free to enjoy the peaceful campsite, explore the surrounding area, or simply admire the impressive views of Salkantay Mountain. Dinner will be served around 6:00 p.m., followed by a short briefing from your guide about Day 2 — the most challenging and rewarding day of the trek.
